"Waiting On" Wednesday: Nell Gwynne's Scarlet Spy

"Waiting On" Wednesday spotlights upcoming releases that everyone's excited about (created by Jill at Breaking The Spine.)

The Women of Nell Gwynne’s by Kage Baker is one of those books that enjoyed an all-too-brief moment in the sun, before all-too-quickly burning away. Well-received and well-reviewed, it was sadly not well-read due to it's small press status. Despite that, it managed to be nominated for multiple awards.

So, you can imagine my girlish glee when it was announced that the book would not only be reprinted as Nell Gwynne’s Scarlet Spy, but it would include a bonus novella.

Lady Beatrice was the proper British daughter of a proper British soldier, until tragedy struck and sent her home to walk the streets of early-Victorian London. But Lady Beatrice is no ordinary whore, and is soon recruited to join an underground establishment known as Nell Gwynne’s.

Nell Gwynne’s is far more than simply the finest and most exclusive brothel in Whitehall; it is in fact the sister organization to the Gentlemen’s Speculative Society, that 19th-century predecessor to a certain Company...and when a member of the Society goes missing on a peculiar assignment, it’s up to Lady Beatrice and her sister harlots to investigate.

Sadly, this bawdy, Victorian era, steampunk adventure remains in a pre-order state, despite being promised to have an October publication date. So, I've been waiting on this for a while, and it looks like I'll keep waiting . . . but that's ok, because anticipation is often the best part!

  1. Sounds interesting. =)
It drives me crazy when they do that. I have two books I've been waiting for forever and they keep saying it will be out on so & so then when it gets close I go to check and they don't have a release date listed anymore! Okay, sorry, ranting a bit. LoL I'm done now. ;)
    Happy Hump Day!
